World Autism Acceptance Week this year is from 2nd - 8th April and there's plenty of ways to get involved!

Silly Sock Day

Just before Acceptance Week starts, you can get involved with Silly Sock Day.

Last year Silly Sock Day raised an amazing £2,500 for Autism Anglia whilst also raising awareness and getting people talking about autism. By coming together each year during World Autism Acceptance Week we have shown that we can raise vital funds to support autistic people whilst having fun along the way.

Order your fundraising pack today and get your school, nursery, place of work, running club, scouts pack or choir, wearing their Silly Socks. The pack includes fundraising ideas, a poster, stickers to wear and a sponsorship form for you to make the most of day.

Autism Alliance - Breaking Point Campaign.

The Autism Alliance have been campaigning in 2024 with their Breaking Point report which explains:

- There are around 1 million autistic people in the UK, and the majority are adults.
- Autistic people face some of the greatest inequalities of any group.
- Their life expectancy is on average 16 years lower than the rest of the population.
- Autistic adults without a learning disability are 9 times more likely to die from suicide.

Adult social care plays an essential role in helping autistic people live happier, healthier, more fulfilled lives. Specialist care providers that understand autism and use person-centred approaches can help autistic adults live well and actively in their communities, take up work, and prevent the escalation of need.

But the social care system is underfunded, and new research from the Autism Alliance shows that over 10,000 autistic adults in England are not getting the social care they need. Tragically, over three quarters reach crisis point without care, leading to family breakdown and for some, admission to mental health hospitals, where they can face excessive restraint, medication and the risk of abuse.
