Location: Doucecroft School, Eight Ash Green, Colchester

Salary: TBC depending on experience

Additional payment will be made for sleep in duties and enhanced rates of pay will apply for this role for weekend working.

Hours: Full time – 40 hours per week on a 52 week flexible working contract to include covering weekends on a Rota basis which will be agreed two weeks in advance. This position will require on call Rota duties.

Autism Anglia’s Doucecroft School is a small independent special school which provides education and care for children and young people with autistic spectrum condition. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a well-established charity that provides staff with ongoing training and supervision, continuing professional development and support as well as an extensive induction on commencement of employment.

As one of a team of residential team leaders, your main duties will be:

  • Supporting the students alongside colleagues in the residential setting whilst promoting and developing their individual skills and interests.
  • To organise, manage and motivate a team by delivering high quality leadership whilst contributing towards the smooth running of the residential setting.
  • Responsible for writing reports, maintaining care plans and completing risk assessments.
  • To monitor staff development through supervision.
  • To communicate effectively with the team and work together to ensure continuous improvement of the practices of staff within the external and internal framework.
  • Prepare and conduct thorough handovers.
  • Following and implementing school policies and procedures and making sure accurate records and documentation is maintained.
  • Contributing within meetings with internal and external agencies and maintaining professional integrity, confidentiality and discretion in working relationships with parents/carers, external agencies and the general public.

Experience:

  • Level 3 Diploma children and young people - essential
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in residential care - essential
  • Experience working with students across the ability range and autistic spectrum - essential
  • Ability to manage emotionally and physically challenging situations and behaviours - essential
  • Line management experience including supervision and development of staff – desirable

It is desirable that the post holder should have a full driving licence.
