Transforming Lives in Norfolk: Celebrating an Incredible Year with BDW as Charity of the Year

Over the past year, we have been proud to work alongside BDW (Barratt David Wilson Homes, Anglia Division) as one of our most engaged and impactful Charity of the Year partners. Together, we’ve not only raised vital funds, but created lasting change for autistic people and their families across Norfolk.

The partnership has shown what is possible when businesses go beyond fundraising alone, investing time, energy, skills, and genuine commitment to make a real difference in local communities.

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

From the outset, BDW embraced the partnership with enthusiasm, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose. Their team committed not only to raising funds, but to understanding Autism Anglia’s work and supporting it in meaningful, hands‑on ways.

Speaking in the above video, BDW described Autism Anglia as one of the most engaging charity partners they have worked with, highlighting the importance of collaboration, communication, and shared values in building successful partnerships.

Throughout the year, our fundraising team worked closely with BDW staff, ensuring opportunities to connect, learn, and make an impact together.

More Than Fundraising: Volunteering That Makes a Difference

One of the standout moments of the partnership was a large‑scale volunteering project, where BDW staff used their annual volunteering days to transform one of our outdoor creative spaces in Norfolk.

In a “DIY SOS‑style” effort, BDW brought together staff volunteers, equipment, and expertise to completely refurbish and redecorate the space. The project included:

  • Repainting and redecorating.
  • Installing new kitchen
  • Installing new Flooring & Patio area
  • Improving the overall environment for the people who use the service

With teams volunteering over several days, the result was a complete transformation, creating a brighter, more welcoming space for autistic people to feel safe, comfortable, and supported.

This hands‑on contribution demonstrated the power of corporate volunteering when aligned with real community need, with a special thank you, also, to all of the amazing contractors who played a part, including:

Reeves property services (Flooring)

Barconn Limited (Patio works)

Symphony Group (Units and work top)

Millprior Estates Ltd (Paint, brushes and rollers)

An Outstanding Year of Fundraising

Alongside volunteering, BDW staff consistently fundraised throughout the year, with activities taking place almost every month. These included bake sales, Car washes, Litter‑picking events, a charity golf day and a large‑scale “It’s a Knockout” event

Every pound raised by staff was match‑funded by the Barratt Foundation, doubling the impact of their efforts.

By the end of the year, the partnership had raised over £44k which marked BDW’s most successful fundraising year to date.

Turning Funds Into Real Support in Norfolk

Crucially, the funds raised through the partnership have been directed straight back into local services in Norfolk.

The money raised has helped kick‑start our Community Connect service in Norfolk, based at Autism Anglia’s Norfolk Opportunities Centre. This community‑based service provides families with a vital point of contact for autism‑related advice and support.

Community Connect offers:

  • A single, trusted place for families to turn
  • Friendly, knowledgeable support from people who understand
  • Advice on education, behaviour, and everyday challenges
  • Guidance with forms and benefits, including DLA applications
  • Emotional reassurance for families who feel overwhelmed or unsure

For many families, having one clear point of contact can make all the difference, reducing stress, confusion, and isolation.

Why Corporate Partnerships Matter

Corporate partnerships like this are essential to our work. Beyond funding, they help:

  • Raise awareness of autism and available support
  • Connect charities with wider audiences
  • Build understanding within workplaces
  • Encourage long‑term community investment
  • Create opportunities for staff to engage with social impact

The partnership with BDW allowed Autism Anglia to share its story, demonstrate impact, and expand vital services into new areas, all while building strong relationships with people who genuinely care.

A Tangible Impact for Families

One of the most powerful messages in the video above is the tangible difference the partnership has made. The £44k raised has not simply transferred into general funds. it has been invested directly into services supporting families in Norfolk.

Families now have access to clearer advice, practical guidance, and a supportive voice when they need it most. Many families spend hours searching online, receiving conflicting information, and feeling unsure where to turn. Community Connect changes that, offering clarity, understanding, and reassurance in one place.

A Huge Thank You to BDW

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone at BDW who made this partnership such a success. from the leadership team to every staff member who fundraised, volunteered, or supported events.

Your generosity, enthusiasm, and commitment have helped transform lives and expand vital support for autistic people and their families across Norfolk.
