We’re delighted to share some exciting news for families in Weeley and the surrounding area. From Tuesday 7th July 2026, Autism Anglia’s Colchester & North‑East Essex Community Connect team will be expanding their service to include a monthly visit to The Aldanat Community Hub in Weeley.
This expansion comes as another step in making our support more accessible, more local, and more responsive to the needs of families who are navigating autism and/or ADHD in the Colchester & North-East Essex area.
If you’ve been feeling like you’re going around in circles trying to find advice, unsure where to turn next or frustrated by a lack of clear information, you’re not alone. And importantly, you don’t have to face it by yourself.
Why Community Connect Exists
Across our communities, many families tell us the same thing: they’re trying their best to support a child or young person, but the system feels complex, overwhelming, and difficult to navigate. Long waits, unclear pathways, and conflicting information can leave families feeling stuck.
That’s exactly why Community Connect was created.
Community Connect is Autism Anglia’s early‑support service, designed to offer practical guidance, reassurance, and a kind listening ear for autistic children and young people aged 0–25, and for their parents, carers, and guardians.
It’s about meeting people where they are, without judgement, without jargon, and without pressure.
What Community Connect Drop‑In Sessions Offer
Community Connect drop‑in sessions provide a friendly, safe space where families can talk things through and get practical advice on the challenges they’re facing.
At our sessions, families can receive support with topics such as:
- Behaviours that may feel hard to manage
- Obtaining support at school or navigating transitions, such as changing schools or facing big life changes
- Advice and guidance when applying for DLA (Disability Living Allowance) or PIP (Personal Independence Payment)
- Understanding next steps when waiting for assessments or diagnoses
There’s no expectation to know what to ask in advance. You can come along with one question or many, or indeed simply to talk.
Importantly, there are no “silly questions”, nothing is off topic, and of course no judgement. Just a supportive conversation with people who understand.
Everyone Is Welcome
One of the most important things to know about Community Connect is that you do not need a formal diagnosis of autism or ADHD to attend.
Families often come to us at different stages of their journey. Some are waiting for assessments, some newly diagnosed, some simply trying to understand what’s going on in their situation. Community Connect is here for all of those stages, and more.
So, whether you’re feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or just in need of some clarity, you are welcome.
Why Weeley?
Expanding Community Connect into Weeley reflects what families have been telling us: support needs to be closer to home.
By offering monthly sessions at The Aldanat Community Hub, we’re making it easier for families in Weeley and nearby areas to access support without long travel times or added stress.
Local support can make a huge difference. Not just practically, but emotionally too. Knowing there’s a place nearby where you can talk things through can be the first step towards feeling more confident and supported.
Support That Fits Real Life
Community Connect understands that families are busy, juggling work, school, caring responsibilities, and everyday life. That’s why our approach is flexible, informal, and centred around real needs.
Our team takes the time to listen, understand your situation, and offer guidance that feels relevant and achievable, not overwhelming.
For many families, attending a drop‑in session for the first time becomes a turning point: a moment where things start to feel clearer, lighter, and more manageable.
A Team You Can Trust
The Community Connect team brings a wealth of experience, understanding, and compassion to every conversation. They work closely with families across Colchester and North‑East Essex, Norwich & Mid- Norfolk, and now, Weeley. Building relationships based on trust and respect.
The team never rush conversations, nor offer one‑size‑fits‑all answers. Instead, they focus on what matters most to you and your family.
Take the Next Step
If you’re based in Weeley, or anywhere else across our communities, and think Community Connect could help you or your family, we’d love to welcome you.
