Creating inclusive opportunities for autistic young people is essential to building stronger, more connected communities across East Anglia. That’s why we’re excited to shine a spotlight on Youth:Connect, a new 12‑week youth‑club‑style programme hosted at The Connect Centre in Colchester, designed specifically for autistic young people aged 12–16.

Launching on Monday 2nd March 2026, Youth Connect offers a calm, friendly space that supports young people to grow their confidence, make meaningful connections, and try out new experiences at their own pace.

Sessions will take place every Monday evening from 6:30pm to 8pm at The Connect Centre, located at 227 Gosbecks Road, Colchester, CO2 9JT.

A Safe, Low‑Pressure Environment for Autistic Young People

Many autistic young people want to make friends and explore new interests, but traditional social settings can feel overwhelming or inaccessible. Youth Connect directly addresses this by offering a welcoming, low-pressure environment, limited to a small group of just 10 participants.

This intimate group size helps create:

• Space for genuine, comfortable interactions
• The freedom to try new activities without pressure
• A sense of belonging where everyone feels valued

Importantly, young people do not need a formal autism diagnosis to join – a key factor in making Youth Connect accessible for families who may be on a diagnostic pathway or exploring support options.

What Young People Can Expect

Each session is packed with opportunities for connection, creativity, and personal development. Young people can:

• Meet others who share similar experiences
• Try new activities at their own pace
• Build confidence in a supported environment
• Explore interests that help them feel included and empowered

The programme is shaped around encouragement and positivity, helping participants become more confident, more included and more themselves.

How to Apply for a Space

Applications for the upcoming 12‑week Youth Connect cycle are now open.

Families can apply through Autism Anglia’s website.

Spaces are limited, and submitting an application does not automatically guarantee a place. The team will get in touch once applications have been reviewed.
