This April, for Autism Acceptance Month, we’re celebrating differences. Every journey with autism is unique and whether it’s your personal experience or that of your child and family, your story can help others feel seen, understood, and supported.

As part of Autism Acceptance Month, we’ve invited autistic individuals, parents, caregivers, and families to share their experiences and were overwhelmed by the response.

Today, we would love to introduce you to Charlotte:

When I found out I was autistic I was actually quite relieved because it realized it wasn’t me that was just the problem getting a job would really hard once I got diagnosed with autism because people didn’t want me because of being autistic and when I did have a job I got bullied for it because I wasn’t what they wanted me to be and then I thought about being self-employed I didn’t have to answer to anyone or be be different person and hide behind my autism I am now a dog walker and dog sitter and my own boss which is the perfect job for me and I get help from my mum and dad to help with the financial stuff behind it but I run my own business and for me was the best thing ever I don’t see autism as a negative I see it as a much very positive and I wish people would have more of an understanding of it.

A big thank you to Charlotte from all of us at Autism Anglia. If you would like to know more about what we’re doing this Autism Acceptance Month, click here.
