Autism Anglia’s training team has been commissioned to provide specialist autism workshops to individuals being supported by another fantastic local charity; Mid and North East Essex Mind.

Mid and North East Essex Mind is a local mental health charity that provides mental health support and advice for both children and adults.

Autism Anglia’s expert trainers are providing workshops to young autistic people with topics including:

  • What is autism?
  • Communication & autism
  • Sensory and autism
  • Emotions & behaviours
  • Understanding & maintaining relationships
  • Resilience

These bespoke workshops aim to improve wellbeing, confidence and resilience as well as a better understanding of what autism is.

The workshops have been delivered virtually. The Autism Anglia training team have adapted quickly to enable training and workshops to continue throughout the pandemic.

Hayley Greenhill, external training manager for Autism Anglia said:

We’re delighted to be able to share our expertise with Mid and North East Essex Mind and the people they support. Mental health support for autistic people is essential now more than ever. The virtual delivery of our workshops has been very much welcomed as the young people are able to participate without the social anxieties that a traditional classroom format can often create.

Tina Bearman, connect service manager for Mid and North East Essex Mind said:

Our young people have embraced this project and two of them wanted to use their knowledge and experience as an opportunity to help others by becoming volunteer mentors. They will help to support attendees of another course run by Autism Anglia in partnership with the DWP to improve confidence and skills in employment for autistic people.
