Supporting 39 Families at Norwich Pride: Celebrating Inclusion, Connection and Community

We were really proud to be part of Norwich Pride 2026, recently, joining thousands of people from across the region in celebrating diversity, inclusion, and community.

As one of the largest Pride events in East Anglia, Norwich Pride provides an important opportunity for people to come together, connect with support organisations, and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community in a welcoming and inclusive environment. For us, it was also a chance to ensure autistic people and their families could access information, advice, and support when they needed it most.

By the end of the day, our Community Connect Team had directly supported 39 families and young people, helping answer questions, provide guidance, and signpost people towards local services and opportunities

Meaningful Conversations and Real Support

Throughout the event, our team welcomed a steady stream of visitors to the Autism Anglia stand. Some were hearing about our services for the first time, while others were keen to learn more about support available for themselves, a family member, or someone they care about.

Many of the conversations centred around topics such as:

  • Accessing autism and ADHD support
  • Understanding available services in Norfolk
  • Autism and ADHD assessments
  • Family support opportunities
  • Community-based projects and activities
  • Future events and ways to get involved

For many families, finding accurate information and knowing where to turn can feel overwhelming. Events such as Norwich Pride provide a valuable opportunity to have face-to-face conversations and ensure people know they are not alone.

Our Community Connect Team exists to do exactly that, offering practical guidance, reassurance, and support to young people aged 0–25 and their families.

Why Events Like Norwich Pride Matter

At Autism Anglia, we believe everyone deserves to feel valued, accepted, and able to be themselves.

That’s why attending events like Norwich Pride is so important.

Pride celebrations create opportunities for people to connect, share experiences, and learn more about the support available within their communities. They also provide an opportunity for organisations like Autism Anglia to listen, understand, and ensure our services continue to evolve to meet the needs of the people we support.

Throughout the day, we met individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Every conversation reinforced the importance of creating services that are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of our communities.

Building New Partnerships Across Norfolk

Alongside supporting families and young people, the event also provided an opportunity to build relationships with local organisations and professionals.

Our team had several positive conversations about future partnership opportunities and ways of working together to support even more people across Norfolk and the wider East Anglian region.

Collaboration is an important part of our mission. By working alongside community groups, professionals, and local organisations, we can help ensure autistic people and their families have access to the information, understanding, and opportunities they need to thrive.

These conversations are often the starting point for future projects, events, and support initiatives that can have a lasting impact within local communities.

Help Shape Future LGBTQIA+ Support

One of the key areas of focus at Norwich Pride was Autism Anglia’s ongoing LGBTQIA+ community survey.

The survey aims to better understand the experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals within our communities and gather ideas that will help shape future services, support, and opportunities.

Listening to lived experience is essential if we are to continue creating inclusive spaces where people feel heard, understood, and represented. Every response helps us build a clearer picture of what people need and how we can best support them in the future.

We’re grateful to everyone who spoke with us about the survey during the event and look forward to hearing from many more people in the months ahead.

Thank You, Norwich Pride

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Norwich Pride team for organising another fantastic event.

The atmosphere throughout the day was welcoming, inclusive, and full of positivity. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate individuality, diversity, and community spirit.

We are proud to have been part of the event and grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many people from across the region.
