We are expanding our specialist services across the charity and have various opportunities within School Services, Diagnostic Services and Adult Services. This includes positions for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within School Services and within Diagnostics Services.

Autism Anglia’s Doucecroft School provides education and care for children and young people with autistic spectrum condition.  This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a well-established charity who provide to their staff ongoing training and supervision, continuing professional development and support as well as an extensive induction on commencement of employment.

As part of the Specialist Therapy Team, you will provide speech and language therapy input to the pupils within Autism Anglia’s Children’s Services based at Doucecroft School, a converted estate in a beautiful setting in Eight Ash Green, Colchester.

Additionally, you may wish to benefit from an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to work as part of our established Diagnostic service which is a charitable service also operating from our school in Eight Ash Green. 

As part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Clinical Psychologists), you may provide autism diagnostic assessments, and support the extension of a post-diagnostic service.

Your main duties will include:

  • Assessing new pupils’ and reviewing existing pupils’ communication needs within the school
  • Developing communication targets for your allocated pupils (in collaboration with teaching and care staff) and regularly monitoring and reviewing these targets
  • Delivering individual and group therapy, where required
  • Delivering training to the wider professional team to develop their skills in effective communication with individuals who have autism

Experience:

  • A recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy - essential
  • Experience of working with individuals who have an Autism Spectrum Condition - essential
  • Competent clinical knowledge of communication problems associated with autism – essential
  • Experience of intervention techniques such as PECS, Intensive interaction, signing, visual support systems – essential

Desirable:

  • Autism diagnostic assessments using gold standard assessments of ADOS and ADI-R
  • Advising and collaborating with the Diagnostic team in pre and post diagnostic support, service development.

The successful applicant will be required to possess a full driving licence.
