We invite you to take the opportunity to work with a highly regarded regional autism charity.

You will be supporting and mentoring our day students with Social & Creative Studies activities appropriate to their individual needs. Offering opportunities to learn and develop confidence and independence through a variety of person-centred creative and social activities.

You will work closely with our Horticulture Department to facilitate producing and selling organically grown produce, facilitating opportunities for the people we support to gain work experience and independence.

Your main duties will include:

  • Managing the day to day running of the Social & Creative Studies Department, ensuring resources are kept stocked and health and safety guidance is followed.
  • Planning, creatively developing and participating in a varied timetable of activities within the Jigsaw centre and out in the community, to meet the needs of the people we support, whilst encouraging and motivating them to achieve their goals.
  • Preparing person-centred teaching materials, session planning, setting achievable goals, monitoring and evaluating student’s’ work on an ongoing basis.
  • Actively promoting the development of each individual; adopting a holistic approach which demonstrates the understanding of their personal, physical, emotional, communication, spiritual and educational needs
  • Encouraging and assisting the people we support to use the department’s equipment/resources and to become involved in other activities which offer independence, social and work-related opportunities.

Experience:

  • Experience of working with people with Autism (E)
  • Qualification or keen practical interest in a range of creative arts (E)
  • Experience in report writing with a good level of IT skills (E)
  • Creative, flexible, self-motivated, enthusiastic and proactive approach (E)
  • An interest in horticulture and learning new skills to teach to the people we support (E)

It is desirable that the successful applicant holds a full driving license.
