Salary:            £25,655 - £32,306pa, pro-rata for part time, dependent on experience and training

Autism Anglia’s Doucecroft School provides education and care for children and young people with autistic spectrum condition.  This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a well-established charity who provide to their staff ongoing training and supervision, continuing professional development and support as well as an extensive induction on commencement of employment.

You will work closely with other therapists and teachers to provide specialist direct and indirect therapy for pupils and young adults with autism and related disabilities. Your work will include addressing sensory processing difficulties, anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties, motor and perpetual skills and functional life skills.

Your main duties will include:

  • Supporting and developing pupils’ ability to participate in functional skills of daily living and accessing the world around them
  • Encouraging pupils to develop self-help skills and promote their independence and well being
  • Helping to recognise and manage sensory processing difficulties and supporting pupils to regulate their sensory systems to enable them to access education
  • Making recommendations and adaptations to the pupil’s space to support teaching staff to create a positive learning environment

Experience:

  • A recognised Occupational Therapy degree/qualification
  • Health Care Professionals Council Licence to practice
  • Membership with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists
  • Experience of working as an Occupational Therapist (ideally with children or within education)
  • Training in therapeutic approaches to improve fine and gross motor skills and motor planning.
  • Knowledge of special educational needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Experience in writing annual review reports to contribute towards Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP)
  • A confident, caring and pro-active attitude
  • An awareness of Sensory Integration

It is desirable that the successful applicant holds a full driving license.

Training and Supervision

If appropriate the school will consider offering the right Occupational Therapist the opportunity to receive ongoing training in sensory integration modules, plus clinical supervision from an SI practitioner. You may be looking to further your knowledge in this specialist area, and we recognise that quality CPD is essential to meet the needs of our practitioners ensuring an excellent therapeutic environment for our children.
Alternatively, you may already be a qualified practitioner in sensory integration looking for clinical supervision, peer observation, and support.
