Autism Anglia’s Doucecroft School is a small independent special school which provides education and care for children and young people with autistic spectrum condition. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a well-established charity who provide to their staff ongoing training and supervision, continuing professional development and support as well as an extensive induction on commencement of employment. 

We require a dynamic, energetic and creative professional to join a highly skilled education team. We are seeking to appoint an experienced and innovative manager to lead our Transition Hub provision.  There will be a focus on Assessment and the Transition year. 

As the Head of Doucecroft Transition Hub, you will be responsible for the provision for students with autistic spectrum conditions 16 -19 years.

Your main duties will include:

  • To provide strong leadership to the Transition Hub staff.
  • To manage the Transition Hub teachers.  
  • To support the strategic direction of school services, especially in relation to the development of the Transition Hub as an all-inclusive provision able to meet the needs of students across the ability range.
  • To ensure a cohesive Transition Hub curriculum is delivered.
  • To ensure the students’ needs, as stipulated in their Statements/EHCPs, are being met.
  • Co-ordinate transition between the school and the Transition Hub, in liaison with the Head Teacher.
  • To work with the Head Teacher, Senior Leadership Team and other senior teachers to manage and develop the whole school curriculum and promote the successful expansion of the school services
  • To develop college placements and work experience for the Transition Hub students
  • To oversee assessment within Doucecroft School and use it to track progress in academic areas and personnel development.
  • To work with therapists to ensure the learning needs of students within the Transition Hub are met
  • To ensure liaison with residential staff is facilitated for all Transition Hub residential students
  • To attend SLT meetings, as required
  • To chair annual reviews within the Transition Hub in line with SEN code of practice
  • To cover on-call duties, as required (no more than once a week) during term time.
  • To ensure each student is offered a curriculum relevant to his/her stage of development, age and ability in line with the 14-19 Curriculum Policy
  • To ensure ISPs, IMPs, Risk Assessments are implemented and updated in line with school policy.
  • To act as E -Safety officer for Transition students
  • To act as the Designated Person for child protection for the Transition Hub
  • To take an active part in the admission process for new Transition Hub students
  • To support the external examination process by preparing students, supervising exams and marking scripts.
  • To support staff working with students who present challenging behaviour, participating in restrictive physical intervention training, staff training and the preparation and implementation of individual management programmes
  • To ensure liaison takes place with the appropriate agencies, each student and his/her parents in identifying and meeting future needs
  • Any other duties required by the Head Teacher that are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading

  • A recognised teaching qualification
  • A proven track record in management
  • Experience in leading a team through change
  • Experience of teaching post-16 students with autistic spectrum conditions who may present with challenging behaviour
  • A flexibility of thought in adapting to new initiatives and future progress
  • Experience of student-centred planning
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in assessment and curriculum planning
