Full-time Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. 35 hours per week, term time only.

Your main duties will include:

You will work with children and young adults who have a diagnosis of autism and possibly a co-existing mental health problem or learning difficulty. 

Day-to-day duties will include:

  • Working with the therapist.
  • Working with clients on a one-to-one basis.
  • Group work and activities.
  • Preparing therapy rooms and equipment.    

 You will need:

  • A caring and understanding approach
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to explain interventions or strategies people with autism and/or their carers.
  • Empathy and the ability to gain the trust and confidence of people with autism.
  • The ability to work under the supervision of the Speech and Language Therapist, as part of a team and also autonomously.
  • Organisational skills. 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 4 or 5 GCSEs (A* to C)
  • Voluntary or paid experience of working with children with Autism, mental health, or learning difficulties. 

Experience of communicative strategies and working alongside a Speech and Language Therapist would be desirable.
