Autistic adults in Colchester enjoyed a heart-warming festive celebration earlier this week as Autism Anglia’s Connect Centre Christmas Party took place at Stanway Community Centre. The much-loved event, which provides a safe and inclusive environment for people supported by Autism Anglia, was made possible thanks to sponsorship from local law firm Fisher Jones Greenwood LLP.
The Connect Centre in Gosbecks Road, is a vital hub for Autism Anglia’s community services, offering activities and support for autistic people across Essex.
For many attendees, the annual Christmas Party was a highlight of the year. A chance to enjoy seasonal festivities in a setting that understands and accommodates their needs.
Christmas can be a challenging time for autistic people due to sensory sensitivities and the pressures of busy social environments. The Connect Centre party was designed to remove those barriers, creating a calm and welcoming space where everyone could relax and enjoy the season. Decorations, entertainment, and refreshments were all tailored to meet the needs of the people Autism Anglia supports.
Gary Boon, Manager of the Connect Centre in Colchester, said the party was an important occasion for the people they support:
“This event is something our members look forward to all year. It gave them the chance to celebrate Christmas in a way that felt comfortable and welcoming. For many, it was one of the few opportunities to enjoy the season without the stress that can come with busy, noisy environments. We’re so grateful to Fisher Jones Greenwood for helping us make this happen.”
Fisher Jones Greenwood, which has offices across Essex and Suffolk, expressed pride in supporting the event and reaffirmed its commitment to the local community. Paula Fowler, CEO said:
“Fisher Jones Greenwood is proud to sponsor the Connect Centre Christmas Party in Colchester this December. This event ensures the people supported by Autism Anglia can celebrate the festivities together in a supportive setting. As an Essex based firm, we believe community matters as much as commerce, and we’re committed to supporting inclusive events that bring people joy and connection.”
Autism Anglia supports hundreds of individuals and families across East Anglia, providing specialist care, education, and community services. Events like the Connect Centre Christmas Party are more than just celebrations. They are often lifelines for people who often face barriers to social inclusion. For many families, these gatherings offer a rare opportunity to connect with others who understand their experiences.
The charity relies on the generosity of local businesses and individuals to make these events possible. Sponsorships and donations ensure that Autism Anglia can continue to provide festive occasions, social activities, and vital support services throughout the year.
