There’s a real buzz of excitement at our Connect Centre in Colchester this week, and for good reason. We can now proudly say we have award‑winning dancers among the adults we support. 🕺✨

Last week marked a milestone moment as Leann, Daniel, and Lee each received prestigious awards from the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA) for their achievements in both Street Dance and Freestyle. Their recognition is not only a celebration of personal achievement but also a reflection of the passion, dedication, and creativity that thrives within our Connect Centre community.

This fantastic moment highlights exactly what our services aim to provide: opportunities for autistic adults to develop new skills, express themselves authentically, and experience the joy of shared achievement.

A Proud Moment for Our Dancers and Our Community

The journey to earning these IDTA awards began right here at The Connect Centre. Each dancer performed two solo routines, which were recorded on-site and submitted to an official judging panel.

Their performances showcased individuality, rhythm, expression, and months of hard work and the results speak for themselves.

When it came time to present the awards, Gary Boon, Manager of The Connect Centre, couldn’t have been more proud. Speaking at the celebration, he shared:

“It was a really fantastic day today, presenting awards and certificates to our fantastic dancers. They have put a lot of hard work into their routines and should be so proud of what they’ve achieved.”

Gary’s words captured the emotion and pride felt by everyone involved. From staff to families to fellow participants who have watched Leann, Daniel, and Lee grow in confidence with every dance session.
