Workforce Development has commissioned Autism Anglia’s training team to deliver ‘Supporting Adults with Autism training’. The bespoke workshops have successfully been delivered virtually over two 3-hour slots. The training was aimed at Social Workers, Independence & Well-being Practitioners and Occupational Therapists.

The aim of this training is to:

  • Provide an understanding of the Autistic Spectrum and how it impacts on individuals in different ways.
  • Identify the Core Features of autism and focus on understanding communication issues.
  • Provide an understanding of how to use practical tools to support people on the Autistic Spectrum.
  • Include an exploration of the dynamics of social/family life within a solution focussed context.

The feedback they have received from delegates has been positive and some were able to identify the impact the trainings will have on their role.

This training will inform my practice as I now understand more about the communication issues people with autism have. I will be more aware when completing my assessments and using an adaptive approach.

I found this course very interesting and engaging. The trainers were very knowledgeable, and their teaching methods were inclusive and very informative. I feel this has given me a better understanding on how to support a customer who has a diagnosis ASD.

Really good piece of training. Very important in highlighting our use of language and the assumption in understanding that we all make, but how these can then exclude others with autism who may not share this same assumed understanding.

We were pleased to deliver these workshops for Suffolk County Council Workforce Development. The feedback from the attendees was very positive and will help to ensure that the needs of autistic people are better understood and supported in the community.
