Training & Events World Autism Awareness Day in Colchester This year at Autism Anglia we are working in collaboration with Colchester Borough Council, who are supported by Livewell Colchester, to hold a FREE Autism Awareness Event in the Town Hall on the 2nd April from 11am – 3pm and invite all Colchester businesses, schools, colleges, public venues and service providers to attend. This event has been created to give opportunity for all organisations in Colchester to find out how they can make their working environment & practices welcoming for those with autism. Whether you work in an office who may have employees on the spectrum, are a venue, or service, that deals face to face with the public on a daily basis, or a business that talks with people on the telephone who may be autistic, we can help you to become autism aware and accepting. Anyone is welcome to drop in throughout the day, where they will be able to access FREE taster training sessions, a ‘Human Library’ where you can ask people about various aspects of living with autism and working with autistic people. Representatives from businesses and public services who have already made accommodations for the autistic community are encouraged to come along and chat with guests and explain how they have made adjustments. What a great way to get some free advertising for your business and promote your services! Likewise, if you have leaflets about autism friendly events, we can display these at the event. There will be a café and art displays by autistic individuals, for people to enjoy whilst chatting and taking in the training sessions. We want to make this the first of many successful WAAD events in the town and can only do this with your participation. Please send us an email, or telephone us, to confirm that you will be sending a representative from your business / service and in what capacity, so that we know who is participating in the event and who we can expect to welcome as an interested guest on the day: [email protected] or 01206 577678 and ask for Marisa or Anna.
