Overview
Adult residential care is an essential element of our
service provision. As children and teenagers with autism
progress through our educational services at Doucecroft
School and the Further Education Department we work with them to
develop their life skills so that they are able to live as
independently as possible. However the very nature of autism
means that many will need to be supported throughout their
adult life, often living in an appropriate adult residential
care environment.
Autism Anglia, therefore, provides a number of adult
residential houses for service users.
Three houses are situated together on our campus at Peldon,
a small village near Colchester in Essex, providing homes
for eighteen residents - Seymour House (4), Ashton House (3)
and Peldon Old Rectory (11). Two other houses, Bourne House and Coldwell Villa, in
Colchester provide a more independent living environment
for four and five residents respectively, with Coldwell
Villa
being specifically for adults with Asperger's Syndrome. In
Norfolk we have three houses for adults - Whitstone House
(11), Walnut House (4) and Lambert House (11).
In addition to these houses Autism Anglia maintains seven
independent living units: houses where individual adult
residents live in their own homes, but with a full package
of care and supervision provided by the charity.
Autism Anglia also runs Jigsaw, a
daytime study centre in Colchester and has plans to
expand the similar service in Norfolk.
Announcement
We are pleased to announce that the Commission for Social
Care Standards (CSCi), the body that registers, inspects and
reports on social care services in England, have recently
awarded all our adult residential units as being
‘excellent’. The award is made following unannounced
inspections that have taken place over the past year.
