Peldon Campus
Autism Anglia has three houses situated together at Peldon,
a small village near Colchester in Essex, providing homes
for eighteen residents - Seymour House (4), Ashton House (3)
and Peldon Old Rectory (11).
The houses provide care and support in an environment which
meets the needs of each individual and includes a level of
supervision necessary to ensure the opportunity for personal
development and safety. Each group of service users lives
together on a permanent basis, under the supervision of a
Registered Manager, in an environment which takes account of
their individual needs and behaviour, and encourages daily
activity and independence.
Set around the houses are large mature gardens which are
used for leisure, recreation and horticultural instruction. A wide range of
activities are offered and arrangements are made for service
users to spend time in the local community.
The Peldon site is particularly suited to service users
with diverse and complex needs - people who often require a
higher level of care and supervision. As with all our
houses, the aim is to provide our service users with a
greater level of independence and confidence in the world
around them. Using the principles of
TEACCH, the service users can begin
to understand many of the things we take for granted, for
example, preparing a simple meal, taking a bath and road
safety.
All people living within the Peldon Campus follow a
structured timetable of activities both within the home and
local community, and is tailored to individual preferences
and choice such as sailing, trampolining, rambles, 1:1
shopping, horseriding, swimming, social clubs, pubs,
restaurants, cinema, theatre, access to local colleges and
churches.
Peldon Old Rectory
The Rectory is a three storey Victorian building which
offers accommodation for eleven adults all with their own
private bedrooms and supported with a staffing ratio of Five
am and pm, One sleep-in and one awake night staff to enable
all individuals to maximise their potential and develop life
skills and participate in various activities. The
garden contains a covered heated swimming pool, summer house,
workshop and greenhouse for use by all people living
within the Peldon Campus.
Ashton House
Ashton house was originally opened in May 1991 by HRH Princess
Anne as a residential home for four service users. In November
2002 it changed its remit to cater for three young service users
with complex needs with 1:1 staffing ratio during the day, one
sleep-in and awake night staff, which has proved to be an
excellent and very successful venture. It has the benefit of a
large garden and also shares the facilities situated at the Peldon
Campus.
Seymour House
Seymour House is a detached residence for four adults with Autism
who benefit from a smaller unit with a higher staff ratio to further
develop their life skills both within the home and in the community.
The four service users, with the help of the support staff, enjoy a
full and structured day programmed both within the community and our
own day facilities based at Peldon and the
Jigsaw Study Centre.
