Autism Anglia Cyclist Completes
Trek
Colchester cyclist David Pomphrett can now
boast that he has cycled 860 miles from Lands End in
Cornwall to John O’Groats in the far north of Scotland, in
seven and a half days (one and a half days quicker than
originally expected!)
David, 23, has already raised over £2000 for
the charity, but hopes for this to climb to
£2500 now that he has finished his journey. As well as
raising money David has been spreading the word of Autism
Anglia far and wide, promoting the charity’s work and
raising awareness of the condition.
David said “I am massively grateful to all the people who
helped me do this (particularly Grants SEAT garage who
donated the support car and the Holiday Inn who provided
free accommodation across the UK). I was so focused and
driven to do this trip that I forced myself to do the
distance on will alone!”
Now at home and recuperating, David has had time to reflect
on his achievement: “I can’t tell you how hard it was and my
body is really suffering for it. But I met lots of people
along the way who applauded me!”
Wendy Bixby, Fundraising Officer for Autism Anglia said
“David should be very proud of his achievement. The money
raised will be going towards a Training Kitchen for young
people with autism at our Further Education Department in
Kelvedon, and the rest will purchase some equipment for one
of the Community Support houses in Colchester.”
Autism Anglia provides a range of services across East
Anglia to enable people with autism to live as independently
as possible, as well as providing invaluable support for
family and carers of people with autism.
If you would like to sponsor David, he is collecting
sponsorship until 18th September 2009 so please visit his
